Who are we?

We envision a future free from intimate partners and gender-based violence, where newcomers are seamlessly assimilated into the Canadian system.

Our Framework: Empowering Change Through Awareness and Action

At Firm Voice Foundation, we recognize the importance of addressing both immediate needs and long-term challenges for marginalized and vulnerable groups. Our framework is built on promoting social justice, providing resources, and empowering individuals to take control of their futures.

  • Cultural Integration for New Immigrants: We offer programs that educate immigrants about the differences between Canadian culture and their home cultures, helping them better navigate the complexities of life in Canada.
  • Support for Vulnerable Women and Children: We provide holistic services to women and children facing intersectional challenges such as racism, sexism, and domestic violence.
  • Parenting Training: We offer training on Canadian-approved child-rearing methods, promoting healthy family relationships and responsible parenting practices.
  • Safe Spaces for Victims of Violence: We create a secure and non-judgmental environment where victims of intimate partner violence and gender-based violence can seek help, speak out, and receive support from both the police and the justice system.
  • Career Development Programs: We offer skill-building and empowerment programs in fields like Information Technology and Project Management to help new immigrants transition into successful careers in Canada.
Our Mission - Empowering Lives, Building Harmony, and Advocating for Justice

Our mission is to empower individuals and communities through education, support, and advocacy. At Firm Voice Foundation, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a life free from violence, discrimination, and oppression.

Our Key Initiatives Include:

  • Educating and Empowering Newcomers: Providing training to newcomers on acceptable parenting styles and fostering healthy family dynamics to ensure successful integration.
  • Collaboration for Community Well-Being: Partnering with local law enforcement and the judicial system to create a safe, supportive environment for victims of intimate partner violence and gender-based violence.
  • Promoting Harmonious Relationships: Developing initiatives that foster understanding, empathy, and peaceful interactions between newcomers and the broader Canadian community.
  • Supporting Victims of Sexual Violence: Offering comprehensive support for victims of sexual violence, connecting them with legal, emotional, and psychological resources.
  • Advocating for Peaceful Living: Raising awareness about peaceful living practices, facilitating dialogue, and creating a culture of empathy in communities across Canada.
  • Career Empowerment: Providing career development training and guidance to ensure community members can contribute meaningfully to society and reach their full potential.
  • Enhancing Information Accessibility: Continuously improving the flow of essential information, making it easily accessible to enhance community awareness and empowerment.

Through these efforts, we are working to create a society that embraces diversity, ensures justice, and supports the well-being of all its members.

At Firm Voice Foundation, we are committed to building a society where everyone feels valued, safe, and integrated into the Canadian community regardless of background. Our vision is to create a future free from intimate partner violence and gender-based oppression, where all individuals especially newcomers are seamlessly welcomed into Canadian society.

We are focused on promoting peaceful living, advocating for justice, and empowering vulnerable communities, ensuring that all individuals can thrive without fear of violence or discrimination.

About Us

Learn about what we do at Firm Voice Foundation

Firm Voice Foundation aka “Voice for the voiceless” is a non-for-profit organization established to address and cater to the needs of the vulnerable, voiceless, and oppressed in our community. There are individuals in our community that are under constant torture, torment, abuse, hunger, destitution, opposition, oppression, and deprivation that have nobody standing or speaking for them. Some have given up on their rights either ignorantly or under compulsion from the forces that keep holding them captive. These individuals include men, women, young girls, young boys, children, visible minorities, immigrants etc. To render our services to the community, we get involved in the following activities.

Relief for the Deprived

Organizing and distributing relief materials such as food, clothing, and shelter to those in need.

Youth Outreach

Identifying and supporting youth who feel isolated or marginalized, offering them direction and mentorship to prevent them from falling into negative behaviours such as substance abuse.

Promoting Integrity

Building trust within the community through responsible action, transparency, and keeping our promises.

Training and Education

Offering training programs and public lectures on sensitive issues like rights awareness and legal information, empowering individuals to take control of their lives.

Advocacy for Diversity and Inclusiveness

We champion the rights of every community member, with a special focus on the inclusion of visible minorities, particularly Black immigrants, African Americans, and African-Caribbean individuals. We provide information, shelter, and relief to immigrants as they settle into their new lives in Canada.

Teamwork and Collaboration

We believe that working together strengthens our foundation. We are open to partnerships with other non-profits that share our values and mission to make a collective impact.

Commitment to Society

Committed to giving our time and resources

Maureeen Abhulimen

Founder
Maureen Abhulimen is a dedicated attorney and compassionate advocate for social justice, renowned for her steadfast commitment and profound dedication to creating a safer, more peaceful, and more equitable world for vulnerable individuals. Maureen's passion for law and advocacy was ignited during her formative years when she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by marginalized communities. She pursued her academic endeavours with purpose, earning her Bachelor of Laws degree from Ambrose Alli University, Edo State, Nigeria, and later obtaining her call to the Nigerian Bar Association. After graduation, while at the university, Maureen formed an organization known as the 'THRESHOLD for Justice for Women and Children,' where she advocated for widows and the girl child. Under this umbrella, the non-profit organization stood for abused women and children who were denied their inheritance because of their gender and the young girls who were sexually abused and could not get justice either because they could not afford it or because no one believed that they were innocent.
